North Star Island Star Millennial Range 11-year-old

This Whisky review we sampled an expression from, Glasgow based independent bottler, North Star Spirits. This relatively new bottler was founded by, ex-brand ambassador for A.D.Rattray Iain Croucher, in 2016. All expressions they release have no chill filtration and are bottled at cask strength.

One of their range of expressions are mystery malts and the only clues given are the distilling region and the longitude and latitude coordinates of the distillery from which is was created.

This particular expression comes from “The Islands” distilling region and the coordinates N 58 degrees 58’7.68” W 2 degrees 58’37.30”.

These map coordinates take you to the Isle of Orkney off the northern coast of mainland Scotland and almost right between Highland Park Distillery and Scapa Distillery. Those that are familiar with these Orcadian distilleries should be able to figure out from which this whisky hail after reading my tasting notes.

Island Star Millennial Range 11-year-old is bottled at 50% ABV. And was purchased for $71.99 CAN.

Nose: Heathery Honey, Shortbread.

Palate: Light smoke, buttery, heather, post-rainstorm earthiness.

Finish: Citrus peel and dusty

I thoroughly enjoyed this dram and will venture to try other expressions from this independent in the future.
