Today’s whisky of choice is another expression from Highland Distillery, Loch Lomond. This one is a limited edition celebrating the distillery’s partnership with the golfing’s original Championship. This Loch Lomond malt is comprised of three different American oak casks that were hand selected by their master blender.

Loch Lomond uses unique straight neck pot stills with special distillation trays for greater contact with the alcohol vapours. These stills can produce spirits up to 90% ABV, whereas regular pot stills top out at about 70% ABV. The ability to adjust these trays also gives more control over the flavours of the final spirit and whether it is light and crisp or heavier and oily.

Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition is bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose: Light, crisp, orchard fruit, vanilla wafers.
Palate: Honey, wildflowers, fruit cobbler and vanilla bean.
Finish: Light smoke with more stone fruits, honey and vanilla.

Rating: We recommend this whisky because of its great value($73.99) and that it is non-chill filtered and no colour added.
