Oh Oban!

Oh Oban!

This Whisky Wednesday’s dram of choice to review is Oban Distiller’s Edition 14-year-old.  This sherried seductress is a powerhouse of flavour, easy to find and a great value.  One that should be on any whisky enthusiast’s list!

Oban is a Westcoast Highland distillery in the port of Oban.  With only two pot stills, Oban is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Established in 1794, the distillery is now owned by Diageo and produces a well-balanced highland whisky with some island-like qualities like smoky and dry.

Oban Distillers Edition is bottled at 43% ABV. This choice dram is given a second maturation in Montilla Fino Sherry casks. The result is a beautiful symphony of fruit, honey, sea salt and smoke.

Nose: Heather, sweet apples and almonds.

Palate: Dry, loads of dark fruit, black cherries, big sherry influence with smoke.

Finish: More dark fruit, bitter dark chocolate, a smoldering oak stave.

I highly recommend to seek this expression out and purchase a few!
