Valentines for us is about memories and moments of sharing – what we enjoy and love about our times together. Last year we spent our Valentines celebration in Tofino, where the sun was warm, the air crisp and tidal surge crashing about us. With each epic wave, the foam came just inches from the tops of our gumboots. We walked hand in hand enjoying the brief reprieve from a hectic life. This year, being snow bound, we are loving our time at home with a warm fire in the wood stove, snow deep and powdery and a brilliant sunrise about to unfold.
Valentines Day is a celebration of all hearts, whether it be your partner, your pet, your child, your friend. It is enough, to stand in the moment, to just be… and want or need nothing more. All days, especially unique ones, should be celebrated. Last year, returning from our walk with our gumboots kicked off, our toques and mitts discarded, waiting was a special bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 year with its slightly peated expression and some salty caramel chocolates from a Chocolatier in Courtenay.
This year we are celebrating the day with a dram of Glenfiddich Fire and Cane, clearly appropriate for this occasion, and Wendy’s exquisite whisky fudge – simply a pairing made in heaven.
