Summertime was in full swing for Blue Collar and Scholar this past weekend and it didn’t disappoint. I headed over to Lund, BC to celebrate my mother’s Birthday and meet with The Scholar and Chef John Walls to hammer out the finer details of the whisky tasting & pairing event at the Historic Lund Hotel we are hosting next weekend. I didn’t think I could be more excited after choosing the 6 whiskies from distilleries throughout Scotland, but after meeting with Chef John Walls and hearing about what he had in mind for culinary pairings, I am over the moon! What are the 6 whiskies? What food is on the menu you ask? That is a secret and you will just have to read the next post to hear all about it… unless you have a ticket!
I arrived in Lund Friday evening via ferry from Comox after work. As soon as we walked in the door, it was “down to business!” We got straight to work “researching”, sampling, tasting and pairing.
Saturday was spent celebrating my mother’s Birthday. We washed and detailed her truck, showered her with cards, flowers and gifts …even a bottle of The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve. That evening more family joined us for a beautiful fireside barbeque dinner and a dram or two. We even tried not to talk about whisky tasting too much! It was an amazing day, celebrating an amazing woman. She is the glue that holds it all together. And for Blue Collar and Scholar, she is the reason we are able to do what we do. She does all the behind the scenes jobs and we take all the credit. I don’t think we would even have a website or blog without her. So…to her, we raise a glass! Slainte!
And to all of you attending the tasting experience next weekend, you are in for a real treat! To all who missed out, stay tuned for the announcement of our next tasting!
